Human Nature – Product Review

Helloooooooo!

Ok, I’m just going to jump straight in.

In this post, we’re going to deviate from the usual nutrition and fitness stuff. But trust me, this is just as important (if not more, lol) – PERSONAL HYGIENE! *Something that I am SO passionate about (or maybe borderline obsessed)*

As much as I love being drenched in sweat, I like to keep my skin/hair super clean and healthy. I am THE BIGGEST CLEAN FREAK you will EVER MEET… EVER! Pretty sure I’m the all time champ for this (HAHHAHAHAHA!).

ANYWAY, the kind people at Human Nature gave me a chance to pick ANY 5 items from their wide range of products. It took me a GOOD week to DECIDE what I want. #toughlife #spoiltforchoice

Here are the 5 items I chose and my personal (honest) review:

1. 100% Natural Clarifying Shampoo
100% Natural Clarifying Shampoo

As mentioned, I SWEAT …… A LOT (all day every day. From working out that is). PLUS, I have A LOT of hair!

The first thing I thought of was SHAMPOO!

The second I applied this shampoo, I KNEW that it was “100% Natural”. Why? Because it didn’t lather as well as the ones I usually use. And when I read the label, I saw that it did not contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) or sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). The typical product on the shelves would usually have these 2 chemicals to give it that nice foamy soapy feel! I actually learned this from my bestie ex-colleague, Sylvia, while working at the plastic surgery clinic (I usually don’t care about these things! But hey, I remembered!).
I actually LOVE that soapy feel but it is actually very bad for your skin and the environment.
In terms of how this product actually feels on your hair, it is somewhere between the very foamy shampoos and the squeaky kind you get at hotels.  Not the best feeling but at least I know that my hair is washed with the good stuff. 😉
I recommend pairing this product with a conditioner.
2. 100% Natural COFFEE Body Scrub
[SALE] Coffee Body Scrub

I think we ALL KNOW WHY I CHOSE THIS.

Yep – COFFEE! I didn’t really care what it was, I chose it when I saw COFFEE (Hello coffee addict. HELP!). No regrets though!

My skin tends to be VERY dry and rough, especially in Australia. I LOVE using this with my loofah to scrub away the dead skin, leaving it OH-SO-SMOOTH! And, THAT smell. #nuffsaid

3. Balancing Facial Wash

Balancing Facial Wash
You know how people can get very personal with the brand/type of facial wash that they use?
Yeah, I’m not one of them (lol). I really couldn’t care what I wash my face with (I know I should!). I’m blessed with facial skin that behaves (it doesn’t go into crazy break outs).
And that’s why I chose this facial wash (cos I’m open to explore and it is something that I use every day).
It smells good and it feels nice. I just wished it came in a GIANT bottle!
4. Deodorising Foot Spray
Deodorizing Footspray

This was next on my list. Simply because I DO NOT WEAR SOCKS with my lifestyle/going out shoes #dontjudge. I only wear socks with my running shoes.

This stuff definitely works for me! It has sugarcane alcohol to remove the odor.

The best part is that it doesn’t leave that “after spray feel”. It dries really well.

5. Perfect Glow Mineral Blush – Sun kissed

Perfect Glow Mineral Blush

Ok finally, we’re at the 5th product! PHEW!

This is another one of my daily essentials (surprise surprise… NOT!). This lil gem is easy to carry in your bag, apply and gives that perfect after glow! WHOOOP!

I definitely chose the right colour for my skin. 😉

I know that skin/body care is a very personal thing. But if you are keen and open to explore other products, then check them out here!

Much love

RecoFit: Ice Cool Compression

When I first started running (a little seriously) last year, my calves suffered the most. I am a forefoot striker (very) and back then, my strides were very wide.

It had gotten to the point where I had to take 1 week off from running for it to recover. That was when I sought after every possible recovery/injury prevention method known to man. My friends suggested that I try compression garment.

IMG_9421 The compression garment that I was using certainly helped in supporting my calves and enhancing the recovery. I wore them during my runs, races and even to sleep. But after a while, I stopped because I had some skin irritation.

It was also around the same time when I started piling on the mileage in preparation for the marathon distance. With the increase in mileage, I increased my cadence and decreased my stride length. Since then, my calves have been A-Okay!

Until……

This year! 2015! They were still doing great for the first half of 2015.

After the dengue attack which left me mileage-less for 2 whole weeks, my body had to “relearn” a thing or two. All my “old” pains and injuries started cropping up again, especially those that I suffered from when I first started running!

RecoFit to the rescue!

And then, RecoFit compression sleeves came along.IMG_9423 RecoFit is designed by Susan Walton of Move Sport. As an active person, she was battling injuries too (shin splints).

She decided to create her very own product by cutting and sewing this sleeve using carbon based performance textile from Italy (Resistex). This product offers gradient compression and post exercise recovery treatment with ice packs!

Susan basically stuck with the R.I.C.E healing concept.

R-Rest

I-Ice

C-Compress

E-Elevate

As she suffered from shin splints, the design of this product was geared towards that. For runners suffering from calf strains, you can just turn the sleeve so that the ice pack sits behind your calf muscle. You will know what I am talking about after you watch the video!

My Thoughts:

Very innovative. Compression garment WITH ICE PACKS?! WIN! I love putting them on after hard training or after a race and it feels SO GOOD!

It fits like a glove. It doesn’t suffocate your muscles and most importantly the seams are soft and they are light on your skin. I have slept with them without skin irritation.

If you happen to suffer from calf or shin splints, you can check them out.

The best part is that there’s a DISCOUNT for my readers!

Kit Kat Green Tea!

If you know me, you’ll know my obsession over GREEN TEA!

Green Tea Ice Cream, Green Tea Smoothie, Green Tea Candy, PURE GREEN TEA…… you get my point 😉

Ok, I am not the biggest fan of chocolates (since young). You wouldn’t see me craving or buying chocolates. I have them occasionally.

Kit Kat Green Tea has always been a rather special treat when friends/family members bring them back from overseas. And now, Nestle Malaysia has finally decided to bring in Kit Kat Green Tea!

FullSizeRender

I had the opportunity to join in the buzz on the launch of this product at Farenheit 88. It was a small event with Mr Sachin Goel, Business Exec Manager of the Confectionery Business Unit, giving the opening speech and introducing the product.

The best part was of course getting a taste of Kit Kat Green Tea that is 100% made in Malaysia! It is made with authentic Japanese Green Tea powder and mixed with white confectionery over their signature wafer. It does have a rich green tea flavour but it was a tad too sweet for me. I don’t have a sweet tooth but this snack will surely satisfy all the green tea lovers out there!

It was a really good day and I got a chance to mingle around. Refreshments were served at the Café outside Farenheit 88. I had a huge helping of Mac and Cheese to counter the sweetness from the Kit Kat Green Tea.

IMG_7780 We also had a chance to taste the Kit Kat Green Tea Ice Cream. I had 2 helpings! YUM!

As the iconic Kit Kat phrase goes, “Have a break, have a Kit Kat!”

I don’t mean to sound cliché but it was a good mid day break from work, uni and assignments. At the end of the event, I was fuelled with more sugar to get through the rest of the day!

Green Tea all the way!

Review: Ostania Mangosteen Amrita

The Product: Ostania Mangosteen Amrita

Phew, that was a mouthful! I can assure you that the product is a lot less complicated.

As an active runner, Furley Bioextracts was keen to hear about their product from my (a runner) point of view.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I’m very wary when it comes to these things. I don’t jump into anything and everything that is free or for advertising purposes. I make sure that every product I try/review is something that I would feel safe to use/take. I always do my own extensive research/background checks before I try anything new or unfamiliar. In fact, it took me more than a month to decide to do this review.

So, here goes!

What is it?

It is a drink that has a combination of whole mangosteen, apple, roselle, acai berry, grape and pomegranate. Basically, it is juice that is packed with antioxidants.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

The Science behind Ostania

Research has shown that mangosteens contain one of the highest antioxidant levels, even more than blackberries and cranberries. This finding has been tested and validated by the National University of Singapore.

The problem is that the good stuff (Xanthones, Anthocyanins and Polyphenols) is in the deep purple colour mangosteen skin. This beverage uses the whole fruit (including the skin) to ensure that the best parts are not lost in the process. Together with the other ingredients, this drink has an added phytonutrient profile of Oligometric Proanthocyanidins (OPC), Resveratrol and Flavonoids.

What Are Antioxidants?

Free radicals are formed as a by-product through natural processes in the body. They are unstable molecules that try to steal electrons from other molecules/healthy cells which can lead to heart diseases and cancer.

Antioxidants help to neutralise these free radicals by donating extra electrons.

Known Benefits of Xanthones

-antitumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, antibacterial, anti-fungal, antituberculotic, anti-viral, antiplatelet, Betaadrenergic blocking and anticonvulsant

-More potent than Vitamin C and E

-Anti-cancer properties as it has shown to suppress tumour development

-Lower LDL (bad cholesterol)

Furley Bioextracts

This product is manufactured by Furley Bioextracts (a Malaysian company) which is a BioNexus accredited biotechnology and agrotechnology company. The BioNexus title is awarded to qualified international and Malaysian biotechnology companies undertaking value-added biotechnology and/or life sciences activities.

The company is passionate in producing functional foods, supplements and cosmetics. They leveraged on the fact that Malaysia is one of the few places where mangosteens can be grown abundantly. This ensures control over the source and quality of the product.

For Runners

Running causes your body to produce a significant amount of free radicals that can lead to muscle fatigue and soreness. If you’re finding it hard to eat your 5-a day (fruits and vegetables), then you can opt to take this!

I am not taking this product as a supplement because I take enough fruits and vegetables to meet my nutrition needs. It is something refreshing to have on an occasional basis.

Burst of citrus flavours and a slight tangy aftertaste, perfect for a hot day.

The first time I had it was after my long run. I mixed 1 part juice with 1 part water, added a ton of ice and shook up a yummy post run recovery drink! It was very refreshing. With the added benefits (immune system booster, deals with inflammation and fatigue etc), it is definitely a plus!

You can make up to 12 servings per bottle. I like mine a little diluted so I have more servings per bottle!
